Dr. Nyamajeje Calleb Weggoro
Dr. Nyamajeje Calleb Weggoro is the African Development Bank Group’s Executive Director for the Eastern Africa Constituency representing Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Seychelles on the Board of Directors.
Prior to this, he was the Advisor of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania responsible for Economic Affairs, Regional Integration and International Affairs.
In 1985, he joined the Government of Tanzania and worked as a Principal Officer in charge of Research and Development in the Ministry of Industries and Trade, SADC Industry and Trade Coordinating Directorate.
Later, in 1997, he joined and served as the first Chief Economist in Charge of Projects and Programs of the East African Community (EAC), where, as a member of first leadership team of the Community, he drafted the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC. As a Director for Productive and Social Sectors, he directly coordinated and spearheaded achievements of key EAC milestones, including negotiations and conclusion of Protocols on Customs Union, Common Market and Monetary Union. He particularly directed the preparation and implementation of major regional sectoral policies, projects and programs in agriculture, industry, energy, tourism and social sectors, and education and health.
He holds both BSc. and MSc. in Industrial Engineering and Economics, Technical University of Dresden, Germany; an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Mediterranean Institute of Management (MIM) in Nicosia, Cyprus; and a PhD in Economics (magna cum laude) from the Free University, Berlin.
He is a member of numerous international development and technical associations.
He has published widely on social sciences and natural resources as well as multilateral cooperation and regional integration.
