The UN General Assembly declared at the end of 2012 a decade of Sustainable Energy for All for the period from 2014-2024. The event will mark the Africa launch of the decade with the AfDB hosting the SE4ALL Africa Hub in partnership with the AU, NEPAD and UNDP. The event will highlight the opportunities that SE4ALL presents for Africa given the enabling role of energy and discuss how the challenges in relation to achieving the three SE4ALL objectives in Africa can be addressed. A key theme of focus during the first year of the decade is the energy-women-health nexus and the panel will also reflect on this dimension. Given the strong response from Africa with 42 countries having opted-in, panelists will reflect on early success stories in Africa, encourage involvement of all stakeholders, establishment of new partnerships and announcement of commitments that can lead to concrete change on the ground.
