S.E.M. Daniel Kablan Duncan

Prime Minister, Côte d’Ivoire

Daniel Kablan Duncan was named minister of foreign affairs by President Alassane Ouattara on 1 June 2011. After more than a year in that post, he was appointed as prime minister on 21 November 2012, was also assigned the ministerial portfolio for finance and the economy.

It is important to remember that the so-called “New Africa” is made up of 54 countries in five regions. Africa is not a single monolithic whole. The only safe generalisation is that Africa is planning, managing and starting to finance its own destiny.
