Jennifer Riria

Chair, Group Chief Executive Officer, Kenya Women

Jennifer Riria is the Group CEO of Kenya Women. She is distinguished as a microfinance banker and practitioner, researcher and gender specialist. She has served in many leadership roles for which she has been recognized locally and internationally. In 2013, she was awarded the Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year, East Africa 2013, and subsequently, the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2014, at which point she was admitted to EY’s Global Hall of Fame.

In addition, Riria is a distinguished recipient of the Ford Foundation’s “Champion of Democracy” award for her roles both as a leader of the TUVUKE Initiative and as Group CEO of Kenya Women Finance Trust. She has also been awarded “Warrior” status by the Marketing Society of Kenya.

Riria is an institutional builder who focuses on organizations that empower and advocate for the majority, particularly women and their families. She is currently involved with Women’s World Banking (Chair), AMFI (Chair), Jabali Microserve (Chair), Global Leadership Council of Women and Girls Lead Global (Member), AMAF (Chair), and TUVUKE Initiative for Peaceful and Fair Electoral Process in Kenya (Chair), among others. In the past, she played a major role in the reconstruction and repositioning of NHIF, Post Bank, National Bank and institutions of higher learning.

Africa is simply tired of being in the dark. It is time to take decisive action and turn around this narrative: to light up and power Africa and accelerate the pace of economic transformation, unlock the potential of businesses, and drive much needed industrialization to create jobs.
