Climate Change in Africa
A race against time
Mário Marques, a former intern at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the European Parliament, is currently contributing to the preparations of the African Development Bank and the African Group of Negotiators towards the COP21 under the Compliance and Safeguards Division of the AfDB. He has an academic background in International Business with a focus on international climate policy, having closely dealt with ground-breaking discussions on carbon market reforms.
Climate change mitigation refers to efforts towards reducing and preventing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), with the view to limiting the magnitude of future global warming. The term may also include actions to remove GHGs from the atmosphere through, for instance, increasing the capacity of carbon sinks such as reforestation.
