Earlier this month, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the international market mechanism that stimulates investment into emissions reduction projects in the developing world, registered its 3,000th project. Due to late market entry, project size, and weak knowledge base, Africa has only a 7% share of the global market. The African Development Bank (AfDB) is designing financing instruments, such as the Africa Carbon Facility (ACF), to help build Africa’s carbon markets and attract more green investments to the continent.
