Economic Brief - "Banana Out of Republic?": Note on the Political Economy of Africa’s Transformation
Africa’s structural transformation will take time to achieve but policymakers are convinced that the time is right to make an earnest start. A recent policy document of the African Union Commission entitled “Africa 2063” projects the vision of: “[A]n integrated prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena”. The document argues that to attain its vision of economic transformation, Africa must seek both energy and inspiration from “within.” That it ought to return to the PanAfricanist and solidarity driven continental agenda, that helped lead the continent to independence some 50 years ago.
