Human and Social Development - Review of the Bank's Experience in the Financing of Dam Projects

This review of the Bank’s experience in financing rural health projects draws on information contained in the project performance audit reports (PPARs) or completion reports (PCRs) on 17 health projects financed by the Bank Group between 1977 and 1991. Two PPAR preparation missions were fielded to Kenya and Malawi to discuss the specific issues of the rural health subsector with all the parties concerned by rural health projects. Twelve of those projects were designed as rural health projects, while the other five were health projects with rural health components aimed at improving the services of secondary health facilities, providing them with medical equipment, and strengthening medical personnel training institutions.
