Mozambique - Massingir Dam and Smallholder Agricultural Rehabilitation Project Supplementary Loan - PCR
The Agriculture Sector objective was to contribute towards the Government’s goal of accelerated GDP growth and poverty reduction. Through the improved efficiency and safety of the Massingir Dam. More specifically, the Project purpose was aimed at increasing dependable water flow to approximately 40,000 ha downstream through improved efficiency of the Massingir dam and to enhance smallholder farmers’ productivity in the production of food crops like rice, beans, maize, groundnuts, cassava, vegetables, and also cash crops like potatoes, through improvement of downstream irrigation and drainage infrastructure. The developments would then serve as the driving force for increasing smallholder farmer incomes, reducing rural poverty, improving food security and contributing to Govwenment’s goal of accelerating GDP growth.
