Mozambique - Mueda-Negomano Road Upgrading Project – Phase II (Roma/Mueda) – ESIA/ARAP summaries

The Government of Mozambique (GoM), through the National Roads Administration (ANE) intends to use the funds from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to rehabilitate the road N381/2151 from Mueda to Roma 95 km, in the district of Mueda, Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique. The project road is part of the Mtwara Corridor, as defined in the SADC Protocol. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was undertaken in July 2016 and updated in May 2019 in fulfilment of the requirements of the AfDB’s Integrated Safeguards System (ISS) as well as those of Mozambique Environmental law 20/97 applicable for Category 1 projects demonstrated the potential for both physical and economic displacement of people as a result of the project.
