Multinational - Burundi, RDC, Rwanda - Ruzizi III Hydropower plant project - Summary RAP - 08 2015
The Ruzizi III Regional Hydropower Plant Development Project concerns 3 countries, namely: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. It is piloted by Electricité des Grands Lacs (EGL), a specialized institution of the Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (ECGLC), which has garnered experience from working with TFPs and implementing Ruzizi II. At the request of the respective governments of Burundi, DRC and Rwanda, the African Development Bank will support the implementation of the Ruzizi III Regional Hydropower Plant Development Project under a public-private partnership (PPP) with the World Bank, KfW, EIB, EU, AFD, the States concerned and the Project Company. From the environmental and social standpoints, the project is classified under Category 1, given the nature of works to be executed, the magnitude and scope of the project as well as its potential direct and indirect challenges.
