Guinea Bissau: Structural Adjustment Programme
Faced with the poor results of its economic policy, the Government adopted at the beginning of the 80s a new market-oriented and agriculture-based development strategy. This strategy was implemented within the scope of the first stabilization and structural adjustment measures carried out with effect from 1983, thanks to the support of an IMF standby credit and a Reconstruction Import Credit financed by IDA and SDC. The performances of these first measures were not satisfactory at the macroeconomic, financial and sectoral levels. This was due to the following adverse factors: (i) the marked increase in budget deficit owing to the relatively high public investments; (ii) the weakening of production incentive measures in the agricultural sector owing to the shortage of inputs and consumer goods due to lack of foreign exchange; (iii) the considerable differential between the official and the parallel market exchange rates; (iv) the unfavorable prices of major export products.Read more

The present project Performance Audit Report covers the First Highway project in Guinea Bissau Which Was financed under two ADF loans (CS/TR/GB/76/1 and supplementary) totaling FUA 9.80 million approved in April 1976 and April 1980 respectively. The entire financing was disbursed up to FUA 9.32 million, thus leaving a residue of FUA 0.48 million which was cancelled on 31 December 1985.Read more
