Morocco - Project to increase the capacity of the Tangier-Marrakech railroad - Project Completion Report
he transport sector plays a vital role in Morocco’s economic and social development. Accordingly, soon after Morocco gained its independence, the country’s authorities gave top priority to the reconstruction, improvement and development of transport infrastructure to meet the increase in demand under the momentum of population and economic growth. Significant efforts were made during the 1990s to develop port infrastructure, rehabilitate and build the road network, renovate airport infrastructure, adapt air traffic control and air traffic control facilities and improve railway infrastructure to respond effectively to modern requirements. Significant achievements in the field of transport infrastructure over the period 2003-2007 have ensured a better competitiveness of the country's economic fabric and accelerated socio-economic development.
