Multinational - Mombasa - Nairobi – Addis Ababa Road Corridor Development Project Phase II - Project Completion Report
Kenya’s long-term development plans are articulated in the Vision 2030, whose main theme is to transform Kenya into a “middle-income country providing a high-quality life to all its citizens by the year 2030”. The vision prioritises investment in infrastructure as a key driver of its economic pillar. The Vision 2030 is being implemented in successive five-year Medium-Term Plans (MTP). MTPI and MTPII covered the periods 2008–2012 and 2013-2017, respectively. The implementation of the project was prioritised in both MTPI and MTPII as part of “a new transport corridor linking Lamu, Ethiopia, Southern Sudan and Somalia”, with a branch at Isiolo to Ethiopia: The Lamu Port South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor. The Corridor will form the backbone for opening up Northern Kenya and integrating it into the national economy, and also facilitate transport and trade between Kenya and Ethiopia.
