Tanzania - Zanzibar Water Supply and Sanitation Project - Project Completion Reports
The design of the project was based on assessment studies and on consultations with all stakeholders including the project beneficiaries. The design of the distribution systems (tanks and piped network) took into account ease and sustained distribution of water to the beneficiaries. This consideration involved both the quantity of the water reserved for distribution and the locations (settlements) of the people hence the elevation of some of the built up reservoirs – tanks – and the ground level tanks to supply the people in high altitudes and those in lower areas through gravity supply of water from the Reservoirs. This was realized as the most efficient way of providing water services for most of the time – especially since the pumping would not have to continue when the water reservoirs had enough water and pumping would resume at those times when most of the water had been used.
