CIF Annual Report 2019

Welcome to the AfDB-CIF 2019 Annual Report.
In this report, we invite you to explore developments in the Bank-CIF portfolio.

Nearly one-fourth of CIF funding goes to Africa. The African Development Bank continues playing an important role as a CIF implementing entity, advancing a growing portfolio of projects in renewable energy, forestry, and resilience in Africa. As of December 31, 2019, African Development Bank has channeled more than $2.7 billion into 27 countries on the continent.

The report highlights some stories of CIF's transformative impact in Africa and features different areas which are central to CIF programs, such as Gender, Monitor and evaluation and Innovation.

The report also provides access to important knowledge achieved during the year - in form of publications, video and events- and presents the major activities planned for the 2020.

Following twelve years of the CIF’s initial programming success and the growing urgency to catalyze new and additional climate finance investments in key areas, in 2020, the CIF is on track to approve four new programs, which are also presented in this publication.

We hope this report offers you new insights into the Bank’s work in expanding Africa’s access to climate financing through  CIF, and its support for Africa’s transformation to clean technology, sustainable management of forests, increased energy access though renewable energy, and climate-resilient development.
