AfDB Actively Participates in CIF Partnership Forum Knowledge Bazaar
The African Development Bank showcased its work in the domain of climate change in Africa through an array of printed and audiovisual materials at the CIF Partnership Forum on November 8-9, 2012 in Istanbul. The CIF in Action semi-annual report, published recently by the Bank’s Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC), highlights the AfDB’s work in expanding access to international climate change financing and was prominently displayed at the entrance to the CIF Partnership Forum’s Knowledge Bazaar. The joint AfDB-World Wildlife Fund publication, Africa Ecological Footprint Report: Green Infrastructure for Africa’s Ecological Security, was also prominently displayed, with both documents being complemented by a two-page overview of how the Climate Investment Funds are being used in Africa.
In addition, the Bank presented a documentary outlining the positive impact of the flagship Menengai Geothermal Project in Kenya. The documentary highlighted the positive impact that Menengai is having in terms of the provision of clean, reliable energy to business and households, capacity building and job creation.
The AfDB material was available to hundreds of participants from civil society organizations, development organizations, national governments, other multilateral development banks (MDBs) and the private sector.
The AfDB has been involved with the CIF since its inception in 2008. Today, the Bank actively supports African nations and regions as they develop CIF investment plans by channelling CIF funds, as well as its own co-financing, to turn those plans into action.
