An African Development Bank (AfDB) Delegation, headed by Mr. Youssouf Ouedraogo, Special Advisor to the President, represented the Bank at Thirty-Fifth Ordinary Session of the Authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of States and Government in Abuja, Nigeria on December 19, 2008. The Special Advisor to the President made a presentation on behalf of Bank President before the ECOWAS Heads of States and Government. The presentation focused on the AfDB support to the development of infrastructure in the ECOWAS region, particularly in the transport and energy sectors, inkling a few landmark national and regional projects. Mr. Ouedraogo also stressed the Bank’s continuous support to the ECOWAS region and to all efforts aiming at fostering improved region integration. The AfDB presentation was very well received and the Summit even recommended the establishment of a Project Development Unit within the ECOWAS Secretariat in coordination with the Bank, as well as the organization of an AfDB-coordinated roundtable on the required infrastructure to help Africa face its future challenges.
