AfDB Infrastructure and Regional Integration Vice President in Cote d’Ivoire
The AfDB Vice President in charge of Infrastructure, Private Sector and Regional Integration, Mandla Gantsho, has expressed the AfDB Group’s support to the West and Central Africa Ports Management Association (AGEPAOC) on the sidelines of his visit to Cote d'Ivoire on Monday 21 April 2008.
The 31st council meeting of the association organized by the autonomous Port of Abidjan and San Pedro from 21-25 April, is being attended by 300 participants representing maritime transport and port organizations in Africa and Europe, on the theme, "Rail/Road Transport and Landlocked countries".
Speaking at the opening ceremony attended by President Laurent Gbabo on Monday, 21 April, Mr. Gantsho underscored the timeliness and relevance of the theme of the meeting which raises the double issue of the dynamics of exchanges between governments and development.
For their part, the participants emphasized the importance of the theme which touches on the competitiveness of the ports themselves.
The Director-General of the Free Port of Abidjan, Marcel Gossio, said that at the end of the meeting, West and Central African leaders expect "courageous decisions" to be taken at highest levels in order to put at the disposal of Port administrations the appropriate tools they require to accomplish their ambitious targets"
Meanwhile, VP Gantsho had a working session with the officials of the Confederation of Cote d’Ivoire Enterprises (CGECI) led by its Vice-Chairman, Bernard N’Doumi.
