AfDB Launches Water and Sanitation Project in Malawi
The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on May 28 and 29, 2009, launched a water and sanitation project in Lilongwe. The 5-year project, estimated at US$47.2 million, is part of the national water development programme being implemented by the Malawian government under the Irrigation and Water Development Ministry.
The launching workshop, attended by key government officials and project staff in the coordination unit was facilitated by the Malawi field office and supported by the AfDB Water and Sanitation Departrment. Speaking during the event, the Malawi Field Office Resident Representative, Frank Kufakwandi, explained that the workshop provided an opportunity for the government and the Bank to share information and exchange views on the project’s successful implementation. He further emphasized the need to measure, monitor and report results. Speaking during the event, Malawi’s Principal Secretary, Andrina Mchiela, thanked the Bank for its support to Malawi and promised the government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project.
