AfDB mobilizes USD 8.93 million of adaptation finance from the Global Environment Facility for Togo
The Council of the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) hosted by the Global Environment Facility has approved on September 20, 2013 a project aiming at strengthening climate resilience of infrastructure in coastal areas in Togo through a grant of USD 8.93 million. This project will enable the construction of specific infrastructure that will protect the littoral, transport infrastructure in particular, from sea-level rise in the areas of Baguida Plage and Kossi Agbavi.
In addition, the project will support communities in the project area to diversify their livelihoods and not rely on the revenues from sand extraction, which have dramatic consequences for coastal erosion. The project will also contribute to the development of an early warning system in the region and to the country’s coastal integrated management plan.
