AfDB Participates in Global Agro-Industry Forum
The African Development Bank participated in the Global Agro-Industries Forum (GAIF) which took place in New Delhi (India) from the 8th to 11th of April.
The Forum was organized by the Government of India; FAO, UNIDO, and IFAD, and attracted some 400 delegates from all over the world. The African Development Bank delegation was led by the AfDB Agriculture Director, Aly Abou Sabaa, who participated as panelist of the roundtable on "Reducing Cost – Infrastructure Development". Leon Sanchez, Agronomist at the AfDB, participated as member of the facilitation team for the Africa workshop, presenting "Key Challenges in Agro-Industrial Development in Africa".
GAIF highlighted the importance of Agro-Industries as key driver of economic growth and poverty reduction.
The gathering also acknowledged the key role that agro-industries could play to overcome the current situation of high food prices, and the need to reinforce investments in the Agriculture Sector. The Forum also made it possible to identify regional key challenges in the development of Agro-Industries and priority actions.
