AfDB Strengthens Angola’s Public Institutions
The African Development Bank (AfDB) organized on 15-19 April 2013 in Luanda, Angola a workshop meant to strengthen capacity for projects and financial management in the country’s public institutions.
The training was organized in collaboration with the African Development Institute and the support of the Portuguese Trust Fund. It focused on the tools used to ensure quality at the first stages of AfDB projects, financial management and AfDB Disbursement principles and methods.
The workshop was attended by 25 participants from Government agencies and project staff from agriculture, fisheries, finances, planning, environment, transports, energy, water and economy. Participants acknowledged the benefit of the training and urged the Bank to organize such events regularly. Some added that the AfDB should consider broadening the scope of future training to areas of monitoring and evaluation programs and projects.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Septime Martin, the Bank’s Resident Representative in Angola, said that the training was part of the AfDB’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and human resources in Angola’s public institutions. He also stressed that the training should provide solid knowledge and understanding of AfDB rules and procedures to improve efficiency in the management and disbursement of its project resources.
