AfDB Supports Mozambique in Moving Closer to a Working Green Growth Action Plan

Stakeholders across Mozambique gathered in a consultation on the country’s developing Green Growth Action Plan (GGAP) in December 2012. The African Development Bank (AfDB) team lead the work to support the Government. Participants in the consultations involved representatives from Government, private sector, civil society, development partners and academia in full-day presentation and discussion events in the three regions of the country: north, centre and south. Together with the Government, AfDB and UNDP jointly organized the consultations.

The consultation sessions added practical value to the GGAP with inputs on policy content and implementation actions. Across the three regions over 100 people participated. Overall, participants were very positive about the GGAP content. It was also clear that at a local level, many activities, such as conservation farming projects, land tenure programs and expansion of decentralized renewable energy services, are already ongoing that fit with the green growth agenda.

The Government’s Green Economy Coordination Group is in the process of reviewing the GGAP draft resulting from the multi-sector consultation process before organizing a public consultation.
UNEP and WWF, as partners of the AfDB, have been actively involved in providing technical inputs to the content of the GGAP.
