From 4 to 10 June 2017 in Abidjan, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will host a mission of Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) experts, as part of the mechanism’s annual and statutory visit.
Its objective is to provide IRM’s experts with the opportunity to hold in depth discussions on their activities with the Bank’s Senior Management, staff in the operations and the Executive Directors. The talks will focus on issues pertaining to ongoing requests and recent developments in the Bank.
This year's visit to Abidjan is exceptional. Indeed, this is the first mission organized after the adoption of the High 5s and the new Development and Business Delivery Model of the Bank. In addition, two of the three IRM experts were recently appointed. Therefore, the visit will particularly serve as a platform to familiarize with relevant Bank policies and procedures, which is critical for them to fulfil their mission.During the visit, the IRM Experts will meet Bank Group President Akinwumi Adesina, and will be introduced to the Boards of Directors. They will also meet with the institution’s senior management. Working sessions are also scheduled with the Safeguards departments, project managers and the Communication Department. A seminar to sensitize staff on the IRM will also be organized.
It should be noted that the IRM roster of experts is composed of 3 independent experts appointed by the Boards of Directors for a non-renewable term of 5 years. Experts play a predominant role in the compliance review and spot checks exercises carried out to enhance the quality and effectiveness of Bank financed operations.
