The African Development Bank (AfDB) is attending the meeting of African finance ministers and central bank governors which began in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 1 August.

The Africa Caucus Meeting was formed in 2002 after the Monterrey Convention in Mexico. It is made up of African member countries of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, and concentrates on issues and policies related to economic change and development in Africa.

The AfDB’s first vice president and chief operating officer, Emmanuel Mbi, is representing the AfDB president, Donald Kaberuka, at the gathering, which will also be attended by delegates from other financial institutions and international development agencies.

This year, the meeting will focus on the issues of job creation, particularly among Africa’s young people, food security, poverty reduction and increasing access to energy on the continent.

Mr Mbi joined the AfDB in July this year from the World Bank, where he had worked for more than 31 years.
