A training on Debt Sustainability Analysis, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB), kicked off in Khartoum on 23 June 2013, to train Sudanese experts dealing with Sudan’s domestic and external debt. The ten day training workshop will run from Sunday 23 June till 04 July 2013 and will benefit 25 participants, drawn from Debt Management Units of the Central Bank of Sudan and the Ministry of Finance and National Economy.
The workshop is being held at the Sudan Academy for Banking and Financial Services in Khartoum. It is focused on various aspects of debt sustainability and risk analysis, including legal and institutional frameworks for debt management, macroeconomic forecasting, and debt financing as well as providing insights in Debt Management Performance Assessment. The workshop is intended to deliver a well-trained cadre of Sudanese authorities and experts who are fully conversant with the technical complexities involved in debt management, with the purpose of building capacity for better debt management practices.
The workshop was officially opened by the State Minister of Finance, Dr. Magdi Yasin, who commended the efforts of the AfDB in helping to build Sudan’s capacity to effectively manage external debt. The minister also praised the AfDB for its unreserved support in the countries efforts to make technical preparations to engage with the international community on discussions on arrears clearance and debt relief.
The training is conducted as part of a broad range of the technical assistance that the AfDB is providing to help build Sudan’s technical capacity in the area of debt management. It intends also to assist the government of Sudan in documenting the progress made toward arrears clearance and debt relief.
