African Development Bank and Nigerian Government launch multimillion−dollar initiative to support recovery efforts in northeast

In collaboration with Nigeria’s Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative, the African Development Bank is launching the Bank-financed Inclusive Basic Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Program for North East Nigeria. This important initiative aims at supporting recovery efforts in the region by addressing and investing in critical areas of infrastructure.

Support will focus mainly on improving food security and nutrition. Other components of the initiative are the restoration and reconstruction of water, sanitation and hygiene, primary healthcare and basic educational services. Job creation for women, youth and vulnerable populations are also included in the programme.

The launch will be presided over by Nigeria’s Vice President, His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, at the Nigeria Country Department premises of the Bank on 6 December 2018, with Governors of the participating States and Ministers of related sectors in attendance.

The Nigeria Inclusive Basic Social Service Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme seeks to mitigate the socio economic vulnerabilities in the northeast engendered by the Boko Haram insurgency. The programme aligns with the African Development Bank High 5 priorities, particularly to Feed Africa and Improve the lives of the people of Africa. within the recovery and peace building framework.
