AfriK4R-WAEMU Peer Review Assessment Meeting
The first peer review assessment meeting of the Africa Knowledge for Results Initiative (Afrik4R) in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) region will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from February 3 to 5. This meeting will be attended by 150 representatives from eight countries. It has been organised by the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-GRD) with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Following on from the WAEMU Community of Practice established in April 2013, this event aims to improve the implementation of Managing for Development Results (MDR) in national practice and to accelerate implementation of three key regional policies: management of public finances, facilitation of trade and improving the business climate.
The eight national delegations are each composed of 15 high-level representatives from the senior management of the civil service, civil society, the private sector, and also from parliaments, women's organizations and youth organizations. Their task over the three days will be to review the MDR performance and practice of every AfriK4R partner country in the WAEMU zone. Discussions will culminate in setting an action plan and a firm commitment to actions aimed at rapid, concrete results in relevant policies.
The opening session will be attended by Khadim Diop, Senegal's Minister of African Integration, NEPAD and the Promotion of Good Governance; the AfDB Resident Representative in Senegal, Mamadou Lamine N’Dongo; Joint President of AfCoP, Seydou Yayé; and Victoria Chisala, AfDB’s Manager, Quality Assurance and Results Department, and the AfDB AfCoP Project Coordinator.

More than 4000 development leaders and practitioners have joined the African Community of Practice (AfCoP) to share and use outcome-focused approaches in their work by applying the principles of Managing for Development Results (MDR). The AfDB, in partnership with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), is supporting AfCoP on the establishment of MDR over the continent, placing an accent on regional integration.
AfCoP's flagship programme, the Africa Knowledge for Results Initiative (AfriK4R) is intended to promote regional integration in Africa through the use of the principles and practice of Managing for Development Results (MDR). To date, the following 17 countries have committed to the AfriK4R Initiative: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The regional economic communities of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) are also AfriK4R Initiative partners.
