19/08/2017 - The African Development Bank has given its support to Southern African leaders in their efforts to accelerate development and growth in the region. AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina was among a host of leaders who delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the 37th SADC Heads of State Summit, which got underway in South Africa’s capital, Pretoria on Saturday. While lending the Bank’s support, the AfDB President also made a clarion call for action when it comes to power supply, agriculture investment, climate change, industrialization and domestic resource mobilisation in the region.

08/08/2017 - Cocoa production in Africa is set to take a turn for the better, as the African Development Bank (AfDB) begin plans to support producers of the crop on the continent.

Among other planned interventions, the Bank is considering support to Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire to reduce the volatility of the international prices of cocoa. Côte d’Ivoire leads the world in the production and export of cocoa.

Grâce à vos efforts, le développement de l’Afrique va s’accélérer » a déclaré, en substance, le président de la République Paul Biya, lors de l’audience qu’il a accordée au président du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), Akinwumi Adesina, lundi 17 juillet 2017 à Yaoundé, à l’occasion de sa visite officielle au Cameroun. Le chef de l’Etat camerounais a profité de l’occasion pour décerner la médaille de Commandeur de l’ordre de la valeur au président de la BAD, en reconnaissance de son action en faveur de l’Afrique.

04/07/2017 - Since 2005, Ghana continues to show steady improvements in economic growth of over 7% per year on average, making it the first African country to meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 1 of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. However, as growth has accelerated the disparities between the Northern and Southern broad regions, in terms of economic development, becomes clearer.

30/06/2017 - Countries from the Indian Ocean Islands and East Africa have come together to develop strategies to tackle illegal fishing and increase accountability in fisheries practices.

For two days, representatives from the fishing industry, civil society, governments and fishing administrations from Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique, met on Mahe Island, Seychelles, to discuss the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI), a global initiative to tackle illegal fishing.
