African Development Bank Group 2022 Annual Meetings: Climate resilience and just energy transition take center stage

22-Apr-2022 - The African Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in May will focus on the impact of climate change on Africa and the need for a just energy transition  on the continent, the Bank Group’s Secretary General said on Wednesday. Professor Vincent Nmehielle spoke during a virtual press conference convened to brief journalists about the agenda of the five-day meetings, to be held from 23 to 27 May in Accra, Ghana.

Cote d’Ivoire: African Development Bank-supported digital platform will support women farmers to gain access to markets

21-Apr-2022 - Women farmers in Cote d’Ivoire will more easily find markets for their crops, thanks to a digital platform recently launched by UN Women. Blaatto, part of the UN agency’s Buy From Women initiative, is targeting women smallholder farmers and members of women-led agricultural cooperatives in the country’s central region where access to markets is relatively poor. The word ‘blaatto’ means ‘come and buy’ in the region’s Baule language.

Multinational: African Development Bank earmarks €10 million equity investment to drive technologies in the wake of Covid-19

19-Apr-2022 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved an equity investment of €9.8 million to support venture capital investments in African start-ups, from seed to growth stages. Of the equity investment, €7 million will be sourced from the African Development Bank’s own resources; the additional €2.8 million represents funds provided by the European Union (EU) through a partnership with the Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

This year’s meetings mark a return to in-person sessions following virtual meetings over the last two years. They will be held in a hybrid format with participants present in Accra and online. The physical sessions, including statutory meetings of governors of the Bank and knowledge events, will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre.
