29-Mar-2017 - The African Development Bank top Executive in charge of the African Natural Resources Center Amani Abou-Zeid was elected African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the latest AU Summit in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, among a total of eight commissioners. Abou-Zeid, an Egyptian national, brings to the role a strong technical background and extensive regional and international expertise in development working for the African Development Bank (AfDB), UNDP and USAID, with a focus on infrastructure and energy programs.

22-Mar-2017 - The New Partnership for Africa’s Development Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF) hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) held discussions with the Infrastructure Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) based in Lomé, Togo, with a view to strengthening collaboration on the preparation of regional infrastructure projects in West Africa. The two institutions agreed to conclude an Operational Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to underpin their cooperation.

Micro, small and medium enterprises development trained under Seychelles MSME Development Project

21-Mar-2017 - Some 509 micro, small and medium enterprises development (MSME) owners graduated and received certificates of participation after attending two business development courses organized by the Seychelles Enterprise Promotion Agency (SEnPA) in collaboration with the University of Seychelles, under the African Development Bank-financed Seychelles MSME Development Project. The Seychelles MSME Development Project is supported by a US $1-million grant from the Fund for Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) of the African Development Bank.

African Development Bank calls on Ministers to prioritize energy sector development

21-Mar-2017 - The Ministerial segment of the African Union’s first Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Transport, Intercontinental and Interregional Infrastructures, Energy and Tourism brought together over 40 Ministers from the concerned sectors in Lomé, Togo. The STC was organized by the African Union Commission in collaboration with the Government of Togo and with the support of the African Development Bank. The meeting was held to consider strategies for strengthening the financing of the aforementioned sectors.

21-Mar-2017 - Senior African researchers and policy-makers have committed to boost regional industrialization and trade during a Senior Policy Seminar (SPS XIX) held at the African Development Bank headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on March 13 and 14, 2017 on the theme “Industrialization in Africa”. The seminar was hosted by the Macroeconomic Policy, Forecasting and Research Department (ECMR) and co-organized with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the United Nations World Institute for Development Economic Research (UNU-WIDER).
