ECOWAS urged to strengthen regional integration by reducing non-tariff barriers to trade
14-Jun-2016 - Trade experts have called on member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to step up efforts to minimise burdens that non-tariff measures (NTMs) place on businesses in the region. At a June 14-15, 2016 meeting in Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital, Abidjan, the experts highlighted that countries needed to diversify and increase their portfolio of exports, set up trade obstacle alert mechanisms, and standardise technical and regulatory requirements.
Putting results first – AfCoP holds seminar on Rapid Results Initiative
13-Jun-2016 - The African Community of Practice (AfCoP), whose secretariat is at the Quality Assurance Department (ORQR) of the African Development Bank (ADB), organized a training seminar on Rapid Results Initiatives (IRR) in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire on the 8th and 9th of June 2016. Opening the seminar, ORQR Department Director, Simon Mizrahi, underscored the importance of strengthening countries’ capacities in establishing evidence-based policies and in the delivery of development results noting that this is essential to the Bank’s mandate.

10-Jun-2016 - The African Development Bank has welcomed the Infrastructure Africa 2016 forum taking place June 9-10, 2016, in Johannesburg. This year the Bank is sponsoring the event in partnership with UK Aid. The forum has proved important over the years in addressing the continent’s infrastructure investment opportunities. 10-Jun-2016 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional arm of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 approved four operations amounting to close to US $45 million in lines of credit to African financial institutions under its Private Sector Credit Enhancement Facility (PSF). The four operations are credit risk participations in lines of credit of the African Development Bank to financial institutions in East, North, West and Southern Africa.

AfDB President discusses partnerships and cooperation during meetings in Stockholm, Sweden
10-Jun-2016 - On June 8 2016, the African Development Bank Group President, Akinwumi Adesina, met with Swedish officials, in Stockholm, in the second leg of his three-country Nordic visit. In the different meetings, President Adesina thanked Sweden for its support to the African Development Bank (ADB) and the African Development Fund (ADF), and called for its continued support to the 14th ADF replenishment. Sweden joined the ADF in 1973 and the AfDB in 1982.

AfDB-funded water and sanitation project to improve lives in Uganda
07-Jun-2016 - The Government of the Republic of Uganda recently commissioned the Ntungamo Water Supply and Sanitation System, financed by the African Development Fund (ADF). It is part of the second phase of the regional Lake Victoria Water Supply and Sanitation Program (LVWATSAN II). This follows an ADF grant of UA 72.98 million (about USD 102 million) approved by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 2010 to implement the LVWATSAN II program in the five East African Community partner states - Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
2nd African Ministerial Forum to accelerate ICT integration in education
07-Jun-2016 - African Ministers in charge of Education and Training, Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD), and Higher Education and Scientific Research from some 20 African countries will be meeting in Abidjan for the 2nd African Ministerial Forum on ICT Integration in Education and Training - Advancing inclusive knowledge societies in Africa, Implementing Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the SDGs. The high-level event will take place at Abidjan’s Heden Golf Hotel, from June 7-9, 2016.
