26-Mar-2024 - Africa must work to urgently address its staggering $65 billion timber trade deficit to position forests as a critical driver for the continent’s future development, global experts urge.
This deficit, accrued between 1992 and 2020, reflects the continent’s imbalance between earnings from timber exports and expenditures on imports of wood-related products, they said during a panel discussion to commemorate this year’s International Day of Forests on March 21.
26-Mar-2024 - The African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation (APTF) and Nigeria’s National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) will work together to revolutionize the country’s pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing industry.
The decision was announced by the two organisations following a High-Level Dialogue on Technology Gaps in Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical and Vaccine Industry’ hosted in Abuja from 18-19 March.

26-Mar-2024 - The African Water Facility has approved a grant of about €2 million to Burundi for the “Development of Water Resources and the Ruvyironza Multi-Purpose Dam (PRODERER)” project to enhance water and food security, and boost access to electricity.
Despite being an agrarian nation, Burundi is grappling with food and energy insecurity. Around 92% of the land is used for agriculture, which serves as the primary source of livelihood and sustenance for around 90% of the population, providing 80% of jobs.
26-Mar-2024 - The Director General of the African Development Bank for East Africa, Nnenna Nwabufo, has expressed satisfaction with the implementation of projects funded by the Bank in Burundi.
During her four-day visit to the East African nation between March 18-21, Ms Nwabufo assessed the progress of projects supported by the Bank, including the East African Nutritional Sciences Institute (EANSI), which has received over $9 million from the African Development Bank. 25-Mar-2024 - The Technical Committee of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group met on 18 March 2024 in Abidjan and approved the new work programme for 2024. The committee, responsible for monitoring the work of the AfDB’s Urban and Municipal Development Fund (UMDF), allocated a total of US$4.5 million to support projects in 14 African municipalities and local authorities.

22-Mar-2024 - Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the African Development Bank Group, has praised US President Joe Biden’s administration for its approach towards Africa particularly its emphasis on the development of quality infrastructure, which he described as the “backbone of every economy.”
Dr Adesina was speaking on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) led by Director Enoh Ebong, at the Bank’s headquarters in the Cote D’Ivoire’s commercial capital, Abidjan.

The Singrobo hydropower plant in Côte d'Ivoire, in which the Bank played the Mandated Lead Arranger role won the Power Deal of the Year award, while the Kom Ombo Solar plant, financed by the Bank as Co-MLA won the Energy Transition Deal of the Year award.
