Infrastructure governance takes centre stage as African governments, AfDB, ALSF and development partners gather in Cape Town

02-Nov-2017 - Representatives of African governments, the global private sector, and international institutions, including the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) and African Development Bank (AfDB), are meeting in Cape Town this week to participate in the region’s First Roundtable on the Governance of Infrastructure, hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). The topic takes center stage as consensus develops globally that a major factor hindering infrastructure implementation is a lack of good governance.

Four African States apply for Fisheries Transparency Initiative membership

02-Nov-2017 - Guinea, Mauritania, Senegal and the Seychelles have informed the FiTI Secretariat of their desire to join the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI). On the model of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), FiTI is a code of conduct involving States, civil society, development partners and operators in the fisheries sector that provides for the publication of all national legislation on and all contracts related to the fisheries sector.

AfDB partners with Purdue University to make technologies available to African farmers

02-Nov-2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Purdue University in the United States have agreed to work together to make technologies available to millions of farmers in Africa. One of the projects in the partnership is a two-day conference to scale up agricultural technologies in developing countries, to be held at the Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, from September 25-27, 2018.

Africa50 Reaches Financial Close for Solar Plants in Egypt

27-Oct-2017 - Africa50, the infrastructure fund for Africa, Scatec Solar and Norfund have signed the long-term financing documentation for the 400 MWDC utility scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants in Egypt for which they had previously entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA). The project, which was developed under the second round of the Egyptian Feed-in Tariff Program, reached financial close on October 27.

AfDB Approves US$ 3 million Line of Credit to Union Trust Bank Sierra Leone

26-Oct-2017 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a line of credit (LOC) of US$ 3 million (synthetic local currency equivalent) to Union Trust Bank Sierra Leone (UTB) to help finance projects and enterprises in transformational sectors such as agriculture, energy, manufacturing and services, with strong emphasis on women-owned businesses. UTB is the only indigenous private bank in Sierra Leone and an important provider of finance for indigenous micro, small and medium- sized enterprises.

AfDB approves US$ 100 million Line of Credit to Kenya Commercial Bank

25-Oct-2017 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) today approved a US$ 100 million Line of Credit (LOC) to Kenya Commercial Bank Limited (KCB).   The line of credit  resources will provide much-needed liquidity support for the development of infrastructure and energy projects as well as support value-addition in manufacturing and providing the youth. The project is therefore an important contribution towards enhancing job creation as well as facilitating financial access to businesses.
