President Adesina shares the development agenda for Africa in Busan

07-Nov-2016 - The 5th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) forum saw President Akinwumi Adesina of the African Development Bank (AfDB) call on Sung Je Cho, President of Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), in Busan, South Korea’s second largest city. At the October 27, 2016 meeting, the two discussed the need to increase trade between Africa and Korea. They deliberated on common areas of collaboration, with President Adesina pointing out energy/power as a major challenge for Africa.

AfDB launches Fashionomics at Lagos Fashion and Design Week in Nigeria

03-Nov-2016 - The African Development Bank launched “Fashionomics”, a platform to develop the African fashion industry for jobs creation, at Lagos Fashion and Design Week, which opened Friday, October 28, 2016.   The launch included the dissemination of the final report and findings on Fashionomics, a demonstration of the dedicated online sharing platform and a panel discussion featuring designers from Nigeria, Ethiopia and South Africa, alongside relevant Nigerian policy-makers.

02-Nov-2016 - Le Conseil d’administration du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a approuvé un prêt de 180 millions d’euros, destiné à la réduction des disparités régionales en Tunisie. Ce prêt, qui constitue la première phase d’un appui budgétaire programmatique, entre dans le cadre du Programme d’appui au développement régional inclusif (PADRI). Il permettra de stimuler le développement régional dans 16 gouvernorats prioritaires à travers la relance de l’investissement, l’inclusion sociale et la promotion de la gouvernance locale.

The announcement was delivered by Fiacre Adopo, Adviser to the Minister of Budget, who represented the Ivorian Government during a workshop on tackling corruption, illegal trade and other forms of illicit financial flows (IFF), hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The AfDB has reiterated during the two-day workshop in Abidjan the critical importance of cutting the channels of IFFs, a key to unlocking the continent’s development potential.

26-Oct-2016 - Road traffic injuries claim more than 1.2 million lives each year worldwide and have a significant impact on health and development. Africa takes the highest share of the road crash burden relative to its low level of motorization and road network density. The characteristics of road crash in the region signifies that over 75% of the casualties are of productive age between 16-65 years; and the vulnerable road users, which include pedestrians, cycle riders and motorcycle riders, constitute over 65% of the deaths.
