26-Oct-2016 - Road traffic injuries claim more than 1.2 million lives each year worldwide and have a significant impact on health and development. Africa takes the highest share of the road crash burden relative to its low level of motorization and road network density. The characteristics of road crash in the region signifies that over 75% of the casualties are of productive age between 16-65 years; and the vulnerable road users, which include pedestrians, cycle riders and motorcycle riders, constitute over 65% of the deaths.
26-Oct-2016 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance have signed an Exchange of Letters announcing Korea’s replenishment of a grant of USD 18 million to the KOAFEC Trust Fund for the year 2017-2018.
The KOAFEC Trust Fund is AfDB’s largest bilateral fund. Under the agreement, Korea will support the Bank’s strategic priority areas, commonly known as the “High Fives”, which seek to address the socio-economic challenges in Africa. 26-Oct-2016 - On October 25 at the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council meeting, the GEF approved the funding of USD 6.3 million for a regional project co-financed with the African Development Bank (AfDB). Funded by the International Waters (IW) window of the GEF, the project aims to strengthen transboundary cooperation and integrated natural resources management in the Songwe River Basin, shared by the countries of Malawi and Tanzania.

24-Oct-2016 - On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, the African Development Bank, rated Aaa (Moody’s) / AAA (S&P) / AAA (Fitch), launched and priced a new US $1-billion 2-year Global benchmark transaction due 2 November 2018.
The new 2-year issue is AfDB’s fifth USD Global benchmark transaction in 2016 and is also its first 2-year US dollar benchmark transaction this year.
BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs International, Nomura and TD Securities were mandated as joint-lead managers on the transaction.
