We-Fi announces new round of funding for women entrepreneurs; $15 million to the Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility to improve access to finance for women-owned small businesses
26-Apr-2022 - The Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) has announced a new round of funding under which the African Development Bank’s Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI) will receive $15 million to develop and extend digital financial solutions to women-owned small and medium businesses in Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Mozambique and Nigeria. Rwanda: African Development Bank approves loans of $180 million to reinforce transmission and last mile connectivity
26-Apr-2022 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved two loans amounting to $180 million to co-finance a major energy project that will extend electricity access to rural areas and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Rwanda. This follows the 26 May 2021 approval for $84.2 million from the resources of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the Bank Group, for the same project.

Cote d’Ivoire: African Development Bank-supported digital platform will support women farmers to gain access to markets
21-Apr-2022 - Women farmers in Cote d’Ivoire will more easily find markets for their crops, thanks to a digital platform recently launched by UN Women. Blaatto, part of the UN agency’s Buy From Women initiative, is targeting women smallholder farmers and members of women-led agricultural cooperatives in the country’s central region where access to markets is relatively poor. The word ‘blaatto’ means ‘come and buy’ in the region’s Baule language.

Multinational: African Development Bank earmarks €10 million equity investment to drive technologies in the wake of Covid-19
19-Apr-2022 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved an equity investment of €9.8 million to support venture capital investments in African start-ups, from seed to growth stages. Of the equity investment, €7 million will be sourced from the African Development Bank’s own resources; the additional €2.8 million represents funds provided by the European Union (EU) through a partnership with the Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
