14-Apr-2023 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved a trade finance transaction guarantee facility to Banque Commerciale Du Burundi (Bancobu). Leveraging Bancobu’s strategic footprint in the East African nation, this instrument will provide support to Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and local corporates, to facilitate their import and export trade finance requirements.
14-Apr-2023 - In just over a month, African Development Bank Group governors will come together in Egypt to find ways to mobilize the robust private investment Africa needs to meet its urgent climate change adaptation and mitigation goals.
14-Apr-2023 - The government of Tanzania, the African Development Bank, and the French Development Agency (AFD) have signed agreements for two development project loans worth $300 million. The funds will finance the construction of the 87.8-megawatt Kakono Hydropower Plant located in Kagera region in the northern part of Tanzania. The project also received a grant of EURO 36 million from the European Union.
12-Apr-2023 - The African Development Bank Group will mobilise close to $4 million to help Burundi urgently procure over 3,000 tons of fertilizer over the upcoming agricultural season. The support will enable the country to procure fertilizer for the first phase of the season, which begins in May. The country’s needs for the entire season are estimated at 145,000 tons.
12-Apr-2023 - The Africa Fertilizer Financing Mechanism’s (AFFM) Governing Council committed to to mobilize funds to implement the AFFM’s Strategic Plan 2022 - 2028 to support the increased availability and appropriate use of fertilizer on the continent.
07-Apr-2023 - The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has commended the work of the African Development Bank Group in helping the continent to deal with the impact of global economic challenges.
07-Apr-2023 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund has approved $8 million in funding toward the establishment of a digitally interoperable unique bank identification system and harmonised customer identification framework for The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Implementation of the project will commence in July 2023, led by the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), working with central banks of the participating countries and in close collaboration with banking and non-banking financial service providers.

Like millions of women smallholder farmers across Africa, the women in Mambwe in the Eastern Province of Zambia face a range of agricultural and climatic risks that can devastate their crops and livelihoods. However, despite representing nearly half of all farmers in Africa, women are less likely to be equipped with appropriate tools and knowledge to protect their crops and increase production.

04-Apr-2023 - The African Development Bank has appointed Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, a Cameroonian national, Vice President for its Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery complex. The appointment is effective from the 1st of April 2023.
Akin-Olugbade is a seasoned senior executive with close to 31 years of experience delivering technical, managerial and strategic knowledge and leadership in capital markets, treasury, asset management and product development at the African Development Bank.
04-Apr-2023 - The African Development Bank has appointed Simon Mizrahi, a British national, Vice President for its Technology and Corporate Services Complex, with effect from the 1st of April 2023.
Before his new appointment, Mizrahi—a seasoned senior executive with more than thirty years of experience in exercising strategic leadership on development operations and policies—served as Acting Vice President for the complex, doubling as Director for the Bank’s Development Impact and Results Department.
03-Apr-2023 - Zimbabwe moved closer to resolving its debt issues last week as it hosted the third debt and arrears clearance structured dialogue platform meeting with development partners and creditors. Dr. Luisa Diogo, the former prime minister of Mozambique, served as the meeting’s facilitator. Diogo is the lead technical advisor to Joaquim Chissano, the former president of Mozambique and high-level facilitator of the process.
31-Mar-2023 - King Letsie III of Lesotho has urged African leaders to translate commitments into action to meet regional and international development targets.
The monarch addressed a high-level meeting on financing nutrition hosted by the African Union from 23-24 March. He stressed the urgency for adequate financing to end hunger and malnutrition in all its forms as a prerequisite for achieving Africa Union Agenda 2063 objectives and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
