31-May-2019 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank, meeting in Abidjan on 29 May 2019, approved a €100 million partial credit guarantee (PCG) to the structured finance company, African Agriculture Impact Investments Ltd (Mauritius), to develop commercial agriculture in Africa.

Japan and Austria to support private sector climate change investments on the continent

28-May-2019 - The governments of Japan and Austria have approved a $1 million fund to strengthen the participation of the private sector in combating climate change. The funding will be channeled to the Africa Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) grant, which aims to expand the role of the private sector in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of African countries. NDCs are national efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions and form part of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Mozambique: African Development Bank supports new tracking system to create growth-friendly labor market

23-May-2019 - Mozambique has launched a new statistics-based system to track trends in the labour market sector.   The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security of Mozambique (MITESS) launched the Labour Market Information System (SIMT) Management Platform on May 9th. The new system was supported by the African Development Bank under the Job Creation and Livelihood Improvement Project. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) was also a key partner.

21-May-2019 - The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), managed by the African Development Bank on 17 May 2019 approved a $995,000 grant to support the roll out of a sustainable procurement framework for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Ethiopia. The SEFA grant will encourage private investments into hydropower projects through Ethiopia’s Renewable Energy Programme.

21-May-2019 - The African Development Bank has since 1995 granted five loans totaling $700 million to the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), a governmental financial institution with special focus on infrastructure expansion. Chad: African Development Bank President pledges deeper cooperation, urges donor support for energy sector

20-May-2019 - African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, on 17 May  2019, pledged to deepen cooperation between his organization and Chad, to help the central African nation to meet critical development financing needs. At a meeting with Chadian President Idriss Deby in the landlocked country’s capital, N’Djamena, Adesina also called on development partners to support Chad’s energy sector to increase power generation capacity to 400 megawatts per year, from less than 100 megawatts currently.

African countries call for collaborative solutions to indebtedness at joint high-level consultation of the African Development Bank and the World Bank

17-May-2019 - Representatives from four African countries today called for a balanced approach to growing debt vulnerabilities to help low-income African countries meet their commitments to lenders. The calls were made at a high-level consultative meeting to discuss debt vulnerabilities in Africa, jointly convened by the African Development Bank and the World Bank, in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Ministers of finance and economy and representatives from several African countries attended the consultation along with development partners.
