Speaking during the launch ceremony of the report held 4 April in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr Marcellin Ndong-Ntah said the manufacturing sector’s potential to accelerate regional economic growth, generate more job creation, and ultimately reduce poverty was significant.

Nigeria: African Development Bank approves $15 million investment package for Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company

12-Apr-2019 - The Board of the African Development Bank has approved a $15-million investment package to Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company (InfraCredit), to support infrastructure financing through the domestic debt capital markets in Nigeria. The investment package to InfraCredit is comprised of a subordinated loan of $10 million and a risk sharing facility of up to $5 million. This intervention will promote local currency infrastructure financing, and further development of the domestic capital market.

South Sudan: Thousands receive food, thanks to Emergency Response project supported by the African Development Bank, WFP

12-Apr-2019 - Thousands of people in South Sudan have received relief from a food security project which is addressing the nation’s severe food and nutrition needs. The South Sudan Short-Term Regional Emergency Response Project (STRERP) was launched in December last year by the government with a $43.57 million grant from the African Development Bank. The World Food Programme is implementing the project.

African Development Bank to convene workshop on Portfolio Improvement

11-Apr-2019 - The Agriculture and Agro-Industry Department of the African Development Bank will organize a two-day workshop on portfolio improvement in Nairobi, Kenya from 11-12 April 2019. The workshop, to be hosted by the Bank’s East Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office, will target selected stakeholders in the agriculture and agro-allied sectors. The event aims to improve the Bank’s Global Agriculture Food Security Program portfolio efficiency, organization and operations.

In Sudan technology helps farmers overcome wheat woes

10-Apr-2019 - Farmers and other players in Sudan’s agricultural sector are celebrating the success of new heat-resistant wheat varieties which could transform the food landscape in Sudan. The country has been hard hit by a severe bread shortage and sharp price increases last year. Locals blamed the bread shortage on a lack of foreign currency, which deepened a crisis that was triggered after the government halted wheat import subsidies. Extreme heat has in recent years also affected wheat yields.
