Campaign for the 16 Days of activism: Orange the World: Raise Money to End Violence against Women
The African Development Bank is joining the World in Orange, to raise money for ending violence against women. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign which takes place each year and runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). The campaign is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. The campaign was originated by the first Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and is coordinated by the Centre for Women's Global Leadership.
Each year, the United Nations Secretary-General’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women calls for global action to increase worldwide awareness and create opportunities for discussion about challenges and possible solutions. The theme for this year 2016, is Orange the World: Raise Money to End Violence against Women.
The Office of the Special Envoy on Gender (SEOG) will be hosting a series of initiatives aiming at celebrating the 16 Days campaign. Violence against women is a global issue that touches everyone, irrespective of age, sex and, it is worldwide. Therefore, building on the momentum and success achieved in 2015, the SEOG is, once again, calling on all staff to come together, to commemorate this important campaign.
