Tunis, 5 November 2007 - The Compliance Review Panel has launched discussions with Bank Experts. The Bujagali Project panel which includes the Chair of the Roster, Madiodo Niasse; Bujagali Review Panel chair, Daniel Bradlow; and CRMU Director, Per Eldar Sovik, started discussions on October 29 in Tunis. Interviews with a number of Bank experts involved in the project were also carried out. The panel’s objective is "to review whether the Bank complied with its own procedures, and to make recommendations on policies and future operations". The review panel also wants to sensitize Bank staff to the review which "is to contribute to the learning process in the Bank and not to apportion blame". Based on discussions held with Bank experts, the panel members will travel to Kampala to further discuss the issues with people adversely affected by the project, sponsors and government officials. The panel hopes staff will appreciate the review, as it serves the needs of beneficiaries and also helps with the learning process.
