Deliver financing for adaptation and resilience in Africa, global leaders urge ahead of COP26

27-Oct-2021 - Ahead of key climate talks at COP26 in Glasgow, African leaders and development partners have called for greater funding towards climate adaptation. The calls were made at the launch of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) report on adaptation trends in Africa. The report was launched on Tuesday in Nairobi on the inaugural Adaptation Acceleration Day.

African Development Bank approves $10 million equity investment to boost cold storage and distribution of food, pharmaceuticals, in East Africa

27-Oct-2021 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved an equity investment of $10 million in the ARCH Cold Chain Solutions East Africa Fund (CCSEAF) to support the development, construction and operation of greenfield cold storage, temperature-controlled solutions and distribution facilities in East Africa. The investment will advance the Fund toward its targeted final close of $100 million by the second quarter of 2022. The Fund’s first close of $30 million occurred in November 2019.

Ghana: African Development Bank extends $75 million loan to Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund for portfolio expansion

27-Oct-2021 - The African Development Bank’s Board of Directors has officially approved a  $75 million commercial loan to the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). The African Development Bank’s loan will enable the Ghanaian state-owned GIIF to efficiently leverage its paid-in equity capital of $325 million to secure additional debt resources to finance several critical Ghanaian infrastructure projects and reduce the country’s estimated multi-billion dollar infrastructure finance deficit.  

COP26: African Development Bank’s climate champions celebrated in Glasgow

26-Oct-2021 - Ahead of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, St. Andrew's Cathedral, the iconic city landmark, will host an exhibition featuring ChangeMakers, a campaign led by Climate Investment Funds. The African Development Bank is a partner of the campaign and implementing agency of Climate Investment Funds. The Bank nominated several climate champions from the continent who actively work in the field of climate action. Their images will be projected on the façade of St. Andrew's Cathedral until one week after the end of COP26.

25-Oct-2021 - Transaction details The African Development Bank (AfDB), rated Aaa/AAA/AAA/AAA (Moody’s/S&P/Fitch/Japan Credit Rating, all stable), has launched and priced a highly successful GBP 500 million long 3-year Global Benchmark bond due 16 December 2024, its second pound sterling  benchmark transaction of the 2021 calendar year. The mandate for a new GBP December 2024 Benchmark was announced on Monday, 25th October 2021 around 9am London time, with orderbooks opening at Initial Price Guidance (“IPGs”) of UKT+28bps area.

Africa Investment Forum: Projects worth $140 million on the table to boost vaccines and healthcare in West and East Africa

African Development Bank launches consultations on new Strategy for Quality Health Infrastructure in Africa

22-Oct-2021 - The African Development Bank has launched a consultation process with health ministers and other partners as it develops a strategy to drive enhanced access to health services across Africa through 2030. Input from ministers in the Bank’s 54 regional member countries, development partners and civil society is expected to strengthen the Bank’s Strategy for Quality Health Infrastructure in Africa (2021-2030). A robust scoping study titled “Good Health and Well-being” underpins the strategy.

African Development Bank unveils draft Policy on Multi-Tranche Financing for comment

Management has developed the concept of a Multi-Tranche Financing approach to enhance the Bank’s operational delivery modalities for greater selectivity and organizational effectiveness. This will make the institution more effective, relevant, dynamic and results-driven.

Nigeria: African Development Bank Group, MTN sign $500,000 grant agreement to study women’s access to financial services

20-Oct-2021 - The African Development Bank has signed a grant agreement for $500,000 with Y’ello Digital Financial Services (YDFS), a fintech subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, to be used for a study into economic, religious, and social factors hampering access to finance for women in northern Nigeria. The research, which includes a feasibility study, women-focused design and testing, will focus on both agents and customers to provide insights into women’s use of mobile money services, will be funded through the Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI).
