16-Jun-2021 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank have approved an €83 million loan to finance the second phase of Egypt’s Electricity and Green Growth Support Program. The funding is part of the Bank’s budget support to the Egyptian government to strengthen its electricity infrastructure, which is expected to bolster the private sector and accelerate recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.

Jacques, a French national, brings to this role almost 20 years of international experience and expertise in Financial Risk Management from both Development Banks and Commercial Banks in Africa and Europe. Prior to his appointment, Jacques served as Division Manager in the Financial Management Department of the Bank, a position he has held since April 2018.

Guinea: African Development Bank approves $430,000 grant for Ebola emergency relief project

08-Jun-2021 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved a $430,000 grant to Guinea to fight the spread of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever epidemic throughout the country. Since mid-February 2021, Guinea has been facing a resurgent Ebola-related epidemic, following the major crisis of 2014. This new epidemic comes against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, which poses both health and socio-economic challenges to the West African country. The project was approved on 3 June.

Madagascar: WFP to distribute more than 800 tons of food funded by the African Development Bank

04-Jun-2021 - The African Development Bank Group has provided a grant of $686,000 to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) which will provide food relief to thousands of people in southern Madagascar. The support comes at a critical time for Madagascar, which is suffering its worst drought in 40 years. More than 1.35 million people are highly food insecure and left with nothing to eat. This is double the figure at the same time last year and the crisis is mounting.

Mozambique: African Development Bank financial package for local content and SME development to boost job creation

04-Jun-2021 - The African Development Bank Group has approved a $1 million grant to boost local content and development of Small and Medium-Size Enterprise (SME) initiatives in the southern African nation of Mozambique. The grant, from the Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Multi-Donor Trust Fund (YEI MDTF), will provide technical and institutional assistance to the Instituto para a Promoção das Pequenas e Médias Empresas, or IPEME,  for the direct support of start-ups and SMEs, with a particular focus on youth-led and women-owned  in business.

Mozambique: African Development Bank grants $1.6 million to support national Covid-19 response

03-Jun-2021 - Mozambique has received a $1.6 million grant from the African Development Bank to purchase emergency health materials in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. The grant, which forms part of a $9.7 million grant to support the Covid-19 emergency response and strengthen health systems in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and in São Tomé and Príncipe, was approved by the African Development Bank Group’s Board of Directors last year.
