From February 7-11, 2016, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will join Ministers of Mining from 16 African countries, industry leaders and an estimated 7,000 participants in Cape Town, South Africa, for the one of the world’s largest mining conferences, Mining Indaba. As patron of the African Minister’s Forum, and a principal sponsor of the conference, the AfDB will help African countries compete for investment in mining.
The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), in partnership with the Government of Benin, is conducting a 10-day capacity-building workshop that is aimed at supporting the government to improve governance in the management of its mining sector. The training will run from January 18-29, 2016 in Dakar, Senegal.

The inaugural Meles Zenawi Foundation (MZF) symposium on development took place in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, on August 21, 2015. The symposium was a partnership between the MZF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Rwandan Government.

One of the most critical issues to be addressed in realizing the Comoros’ growth opportunities is the immense power deficit which acts as a major constraint to the country’s socioeconomic development. The power sector is going through an energy crisis in the Comoros, due to the structural problem of exorbitant generation costs and inefficient organization of the sector.
The first peer review assessment meeting of the Africa Knowledge for Results Initiative (Afrik4R) in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) region will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from February 3 to 5. This meeting will be attended by 150 representatives from eight countries. It has been organised by the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-GRD) with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
