28-Sep-2017 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Akinwumi Adesina, has been elevated to the rank of Grand Officer in the Order of Merit of the Republic of Niger on behalf of the President of the Republic, Issoufou Mahamadou, during a gala dinner hosted by Nigerien Prime Minister Brigi Rafini at the Gaweye Hotel in Niger’s capital, Niamey. Africa is at the bottom of the global value chain because African economies rely on raw commodities. Its share of global manufacturing exports amounts to less than 1%.

22-Sep-2017 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the Government of Korea have officially launched preparations for the Bank’s 2018 Annual Meetings, to be held in Korea. The 53rd Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the AfDB and 44th Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional arm of the Bank Group, are scheduled to take place from 22-25 May 2018 in Busan, which is located about 325 kilometres southeast of Seoul.

An emotional tribute in memory of former AfDB President Babacar Ndiaye

In an intensely emotional tribute, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, opened a ceremony honouring Babacar Ndiaye at the organisation's headquarters in Abidjan. Adesina announced that the AfDB headquarters auditorium will from now on be named Babacar Ndiaye Auditorium. Babacar Ndiaye, the Bank Group's fifth elected President, who served two terms between 1985 and 1995, passed away on July 13, 2017 in Senegal.

An investigation conducted by the AfDB’s Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption established that ECUR engaged in a fraudulent practice in the execution of a road rehabilitation project in Mali: The company submitted a forged bank guarantee to secure an advance payment on a works contract financed by the AfDB.
