First Year Results Presented At ICA Berlin Meeting
The 3rd Senior Level meeting of the Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) took place in Berlin on 17 and 18 January 2007. The meeting was hosted by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, Bundesministerium für wirtschaftlishe Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung). Participants included senior representatives of the G8 responsible for infrastructure-related programmes in Africa, multilateral agencies and key African institutions. China participated as an observer for the first time.
The agenda included two days of discussions on critical themes on the need to scale up donor support toward the development of much-needed infrastructure in Africa, and on making existing infrastructure more effective. In recognition of the importance of road transport in intra-country trade and growth, a specific half-day discussion was held on subject. "A case for scaling up infrastructure has been made at the meeting" said Vice-President Mandla Gantsho, who led the Bank’s delegation to the meeting. The Director of OINF, Gilbert Mbesherubusa, as well as senior staff from OINF and ONRI also attended.
