Ghana Reaches Completion Point in HIPC Initiative: Obtains major debt relief from the ADB

01-Dec-2004 - The Bank Group will, as a result, provide irrevocable debt relief of US$ 131 million in net present value (NPV) terms to the country. Ghana will be released from up to 80 percent of annual debt service to the Bank Group until the entire amount is delivered sometime in January 2013. In practical terms, its 2004 debt service obligations, for example, will fall from about US$ 25.15 million to about US$ 5.03 million. To reach completion point, the government had to fulfill three key conditions:

30-Nov-2004 - M. Théodore Nkodo, vice-président du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement pour les opérations Nord, Est et Sud, et M. Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra, ambassadeur du Mali à Tunis, ont signé l’accord de don. Le montant de ce don, 8,3 millions d’unités de compte (6,4 millions de FCFA), contribuera à réduire le taux de séroprévalence par l’amélioration des services de dépistage, la mise à disposition des antiviraux aux malades du SIDA.

30-Nov-2004 - Ces trois accords, dont le montant total s’élève à 11,88 millions d’unités de compte (17,81 millions de dollars EU), financeront le projet d’électrification rurale dans la région de Louga et le projet multinational de lutte contre la prolifération des plantes aquatiques en Afrique de l’Ouest. Ces trois accords ont été signés par M. Théodore Nkodo, vice-président du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement pour les opérations Nord, Est et Sud, et par M. Abdourahmane Sow, ambassadeur du Sénégal à Tunis.

Framework for Implementation of Capital Adequacy Standards and Good Corporate Governance in African Banks

29-Nov-2004 - The Bank organized this workshop to facilitate a discussion on the issues and options among African bank supervisors, officials from other financial institutions and with international experts. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Association of African Central Banks and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Secretariat in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Financial Stability Institute of Basel provided technical support to the workshop.

29-Nov-2004 - Le vice-président pour les opérations des régions Centre et Ouest du Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD), M. Bisi Ogunjobi, et M. Grégoire Laourou, ministre des Finances et de l’économie du Bénin ont signé, à Tunis aujourd’hui, trois accords de prêt pour un montant total de 19,78 millions d’unités de compte (29, 6 millions de dollars EU). Ces accords concernent deux projets nationaux: un projet de réhabilitation de la route Pobé-Kétou-Illara et un projet d’alimentation en eau potable et d’assainissement en milieu rural.

24-Nov-2004 - The Board of Directors of the ADF approved in Tunis on Wednesday, a grant of 790,000 Units of Account (UA*); equivalent to 1.2 million US dollars to finance Institutional Support to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MOFDP) and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPWT).

24-Nov-2004 - The ADF today approved the funding of the District Agriculture Sector Investment Project with a loan of 36 million Units of Account (US$ 54 million or 56 billion Tanzanian Shillings) and a grant of 7 million Units of Account (US$ 10.5 million or TZS 11 billion).

Water And Sanitation: ADF Supports Uganda’s Small Towns

24-Nov-2004 - The objective of the project is to improve the quality of life and enhance national economic development by ensuring sustainable management of the country’s water resources and provision of adequate water for all. This will enhance the standard of living and promote development in the seven small towns that will benefit from the project. The project involves the provision of adequate water supply and sanitation to the towns concerned, solid waste management, storm water drainage and community mobilization and health education

AfDB Supports Tunisian Road Network Development

24-Nov-2004 - The project aims to reduce transport costs by improving the capacity of paved roads and reducing their width constraints in order to promote the development of intra- and inter-regional trade. The ADB loan will enable the rehabilitation works of 1,256 km of roads of the classified network and the widening of the roads to 7,60 m or more. Monitoring capacity of the road network and supervision of maintenance works will also be strengthened.

Water and Sanitation: Morocco Gets AfDB Support

24-Nov-2004 - The loan of 56.2 million Units of Account (UA*), equivalent to 66.5 million euros, will be used to help improve the living conditions of the population by providing them with drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities. The project aims at ensuring sustainable supply of drinking water to several towns and cities, to the new tourist and port complexes. It will improve access to drinking water in rural areas that are not on the supply network as well as improve hygiene.

Indian Ocean : ADF stems HIV/AIDS propagation

24-Nov-2004 - The ADF grant (6 million Units of Account or US$ 9 million) seeks to stem HIV/AIDS/STI transmission in and amongst the IOC member states. The Support Project to the Regional Initiative for HIV/AIDS/STI Control in IOC Member Countries will target the migrant populations (migrant/seasonal workers, tourists, seafarers…) that move from island to island, along with the local populations with which they come into contact at ports, tourist locations and hotels…

XIIth Summit of NEPAD's HSGIC

23-Nov-2004 - The NEPAD's Heads of States and Governments Implementation Committee (HSGIC) meets on a regular basis to assess progress in NEPAD. The Bank participates in these meetings, as a core NEPAD stakeholder and technical adviser. During the XIIth Summit, held in Algiers, the Bank's President made an intervention. In addition, a report was prepared by the Bank for the Summit.
