03/12/2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) welcomes the new infusion of US $248 million for the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which was announced Monday at the global climate summit in Paris. The new money, pledged by 11 donor countries (Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States of America) in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting, opens the door for new critical support for adaptation in the world’s most vulnerable countries, including a majority of African countries.
01/09/2015 - Through the SE4All Africa Hub, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is now supporting the development of the SE4All Country Action Agenda and Investment Prospectuses in four new countries: Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Zimbabwe, along with Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, which are already supported.
09/06/2015 - The Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved USD 35 million in funding to improve climate resilience to be channeled through the African Development Bank for programs in Côte d’Ivoire, Chad, Zambia, in addition to one which spans several countries. The announcement was made at the recent 48th session of the GEF Council Meeting during which the largest GEF work program in its 23 years of history – USD 709 million – was endorsed.
04/05/2015 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) is an implementing agency for the Global Environment Facility since 2008. The relatively young portfolio has 28 projects over 30 countries on the continent according to the 2014 AfDB and GEF annual report released on Monday, May 4. The portfolio size has been multiplied by 10 during the last five years and is now worth more than USD 200 million.
05/03/2015 - The African Development Bank Board approved an additional financing of US $8.37 million (on March 4, 2015 from the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) for the Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (WSSP), already financed by the Bank. The GEF financing will increase the resilience of the natural environment and the physical infrastructure of vulnerable drought and flood prone districts in Eastern Uganda.
30/10/2014 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) participated to the Twelfth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP12) of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that took place from October 6-17, 2014 in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea.
30/06/2014 - The Board of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on June 27th the creation and management of a pilot Africa Climate Technology Finance Center and Network (ACTFCN) for a three-year period to support the deployment and scaling-up of both climate change mitigation and adaptation technologies.

24/04/2014 - Thirty donor countries pledged a record amount of US $4.43 billion for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) on April 17 to support developing countries’ efforts over the next four years to prevent degradation of the global environment. The African Development Bank, as one of the implementing agencies of the GEF since 2007, is a key player to foster a sustainable development path in Africa.
13/03/2014 - The African Renewable Energy Fund (AREF), a dedicated renewable energy fund focused on Sub-Saharan Africa closed on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 with US $100 million of committed capital to support small- to medium-scale independent power producers (IPPs).
